Dr. Nitin Raju is a specialist in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. He was born in India, but moved to Oklahoma at a young age. Dr. Raju completed his undergraduate degree in Electrical Engineering at the University of Wisconsin – Madison. He moved to California following graduation and developed his passion for dentistry assisting in the UCSD Pre-Dental Society volunteer clinics. Dr. Raju went to dental school at the prestigious University of Michigan School of Dentistry and graduated in 2008.
Immediately after dental school, Dr. Raju moved to San Antonio for six additional years of training in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. As part of his training, he attended medical school and received his medical degree from the University of Texas Health Science Center – San Antonio in 2011. He did a year of training in General Surgery and Anesthesia at University Hospital in San Antonio in 2012. His completed his training in oral surgery in 2014 which included treatment of facial trauma, jaw corrective surgery, facial cosmetic surgery, extraction of wisdom teeth, dental implants, and sedation/anesthesia services.
Following his graduation in 2014, Dr. Raju has worked in the San Antonio and Austin areas including Olmos Park Oral Surgery, LoneStar Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, Parkside Dental Specialty, Rose Dental Group, and Leander Dental Care. He was a faculty member at the UT Health San Antonio School of Dentistry, teaching dental students how to evaluate patients and extract teeth from 2014-2018 and a team doctor for the San Antonio Rampage professional hockey team from 2014-2016. In 2023, Dr. Raju decided to start South Austin Oral Surgery so he could provide the highest level of care for oral surgery in the Austin metropolitan area.
Dr. Raju regularly attends continuing education courses to stay up-to-date in the fields of oral surgery, facial cosmetics, medicine, pain management, and sedation/anesthesia. He is a member of the American Dental Association, Texas Dental Association, Capital Area Dental Society, and American Dental Society of Anesthesiology.
Outside of dentistry, Dr. Raju enjoys the outdoors, photography, and smoking briskets. He lives in Austin with his chiweenie (Tippy) and his 11 chickens (who also happen to have names). He has visited 40 out of 63 national parks and hopes to visit all of them some day. As an adopted Texan, he is proud to say Big Bend National Park is his favorite.
